Hydroinformatics and Sustainable Agriculture

Dr. Paul Celicourt -- PhD in Hydroinformatics

Dr. Celicourt holds a PhD in Hydroinformatics and has completed two years of postdoctoral research in precision agriculture, particularly on the development of precision irrigation methods for cranberry and potato production. His research interests in Hydroinformatics focus on establishing new approaches to the development of automated and streamlined environmental data acquisition and curation systems (hardware and software) that are capable of fully operating according to the FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) principles in an end-to-end fashion. He has recently developed an interest in precision agriculture, especially the development and adoption of water-management-oriented methods and technologies aiming at a justifiable balance between crop productivity and agroecosystems sustainability. Toward this perspective, he had co-pioneered a new field of applied research at the interface between Hydroinformatics and Agriculture called Agricultural Hydroinformatics, which emphasizes the relevance of applying the social and technical dimensions of Hydroinformatics in Agriculture to achieve integrated and sustainable agriculture. He is currently a Research Associate in the department of soils and agri-food engineering at Laval University.
